An aural activity based on bars 1-32 of the third movement that can be used as a first encounter with the Symphonie Fantastique. Designed to encourage your students to listen intently to a key passage from the symphony that provides fertile ground for identifying ground-breaking orchestral effects as well as exploring how the music expresses the programme. Questions cover both of these characteristics as well as asking students to identify rhythmic features, elements relating to pitch and harmonic detail.
